Working with new mothers to improve infant health and provide empowering social-support.
Our early childhood strategy begins before childbirth, with the Community-Based Doula program. Doulas provideemotional and social support to women who are often socially isolated and disconnected from support resources. Doulas assist new mothers through pregnancy, delivery and early infancy with nutrition education, basic-needs support, medical systems advocacy, labor and delivery coaching, breastfeeding education and facilitation, and mother-child activities promoting attachment and bonding.
The relationship between mother and doula serves as the gateway to a broad range of other community relationships: with other parents and caregivers, with child development and health organizations and institutions, and with preschools and schools.
