Our early childhood strategy begins before childbirth through our community-based Doula program. Doulas provide emotional and social support to women who are often socially isolated and disconnected from support resources.
Doulas assist new mothers through pregnancy, delivery and early infancy with nutrition education, basic-needs support, medical systems advocacy, labor and delivery coaching, breastfeeding education and facilitation, and mother-child activities promoting attachment and bondingThe relationship between mother and doula serves as the gateway to a broad range of other community relationships: with other parents and caregivers, with child development and health organizations, and with preschools and schools.
All new mothers in the program have the opportunity to enter Preschool Without Walls.
