- Promoting academic achievement and high school completion through art exploration -
SBCC’s arts-based youth development program promotes academic achievement and increased high school graduation rates among the at-risk youth it serves. We offer Urban Arts in 12-week modules at local participating high schools. Participants explore visual and performing arts and, through a series of workshops and activities, develop leadership skills while building positive peer relationships. In addition, the program also incorporates core academic instruction, training in technical art skills, individual and group coaching/counseling support, and academic advisement. Since the program was launched in 2009, 100 percent of all participants have completed the 12-week program and received a completion certificate. More than 80 percent earned their high school diploma or a GED certificate.
